MIHA is pleased to offer 8 scholarship opportunities annually totaling $11,500! New this year, MIHA will award four $1500, and four $1000 scholarships!  In addition, the Michigan Horse Council through MIHA awards two $500 scholarships, and Lighthouse Sportswear, the official merchandise vendor to the MIHA, sponsors a $500 scholarship. MIHA registered riders/grooms who compete 3 of the 4 high school years with their senior year being one of the required years are qualified to apply for the scholarship. Please see below for detailed requirements. Being an Interscholastic organization, MIHA wants to help support our members in their future education endeavors! MIHA thanks the Michigan Horse Council and Lighthouse Sportswear for partnering with MIHA to help achieve this goal.

Scholarship winners are officially announced at the Winter Meeting in February.

Requirements:

Application packets (scholarship application form, letter of character reference, and 2 essays) not 100% complete when submitted will not be considered. Deadline by midnight November 1, 2024 to scholarships@miha.org

Registered riders/grooms who compete 3 of the 4 high school years with their senior year (Your senior year in MIHA must be the fall High School season directly preceding the Scholarship application due date above.) being one of the required years.

  • Letter of character reference from a Coach, District Chairperson, Counselor or Teacher. It is preferred that the letter not be from a parent. (Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF)
  • Two Essays, each 500 words or less: (Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF will be accepted, GOOGLE DOCS AND SHEETS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED)
  1. What unique MIHA experience allowed you as a team member to overcome an obstacle? As you compose your essay, remember, there is no “l” in “Team”!
  2. How will your experience in MIHA impact or inspire your future? (Examples: School, career, volunteerism)
  • The scholarship application form, letter of recommendation, and both essays to be sent in ONE email to scholarships@miha.org with the subject “MIHA Scholarship 2023/2024”
  • All submissions will receive a confirmation email within 7 days. If you do not receive one, please send your email address you submitted with, the date and time you submitted your file, and we will confirm receipt, DO NOT SEND IT TO mihaexecutiveboard@gmail.com Your application will not be accepted there.

The MIHA Treasurer will advise how funds are distributed once an announcement is made. All recipients are required to attend the Horse Expo held at MSU in the spring.
